                <title>Optical Power Meter 0.7 % Traceable Calibration Accuracy</title>

                    <![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal">Kingfisher International is pleased to announce our improved capability for traceable optical power meter calibration. Externally accredited to ISO17025, our Optical Calibration Laboratory can now calibrate free-space optical power meters to a 95 % / 2 sigma uncertainty of 0.7%, over a wavelength range of 350 - 1650 nm. This is industry best-practice and is suitable for calibrating equipment for use in other traceable calibration laboratories. Our external accreditation is performed by NATA and includes a scientific assessor expert in this type of optical calibration, in addition to the usual administration audit.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Kingfisher Optical Calibration Laboratory has a high level of flexibility, automation, data collection and staff expertise. In combination with a large number of daily optical power meter calibrations, and service / recalibration of existing customer equipment exhibiting excellent repeatability, this gives confidence that the laboratory is reliably meeting our claimed uncertainty.</p>

<p>Additionally, we can measure a wide variety of other multimode fiber launch conditions, at wavelengths from visible - SWIR, 400 - 1650 nm, including 850 / 1300 nm, and fiber core diameter up to 100 u and beyond.</p>

                    <![CDATA[<p>Kingfisher introduces the KI9600-VE Optical Power Meter which offers improved accuracy for mixed multimode / single mode optical fiber applications. The unique and innovative VE (Visual Enhanced) InGaAs power meter gives 3x better accuracy at 850 nm compared to existing meters. This is particularly helpful for users who may work on mixed single mode and multimode systems. The tight operational power budget of many of today's 850 nm multimode systems, puts test accuracy at a premium.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Existing InGaAs detectors offer an accuracy of about ±1.2 dB across the 850 nm band, due to wavelength sensitivity. In the same situation, VE detectors offer much better accuracy of ±0.3 dB.</p>

                <title>Broadband Spectral Characterisation</title>

                    <![CDATA[<p>Kingfisher International can now efficiently test broadband spectral loss or responsivity of fiber optic devices, and optical detectors, from 350 - 1650 nm in 5 nm increments.</p>
<p>Test results we have achieved on this facility have only a vague resemblance to published data in many cases, so we think that this must be an unusual capability, and that a lot of published data is not based on real measurements.</p>
<p>Absolute accuracy of these tests is of the order of 1.4%, and is NATA/ILAC traceable to ISO/IEC 17025.</p>
<p>For example, these detector responsivity graphs have 250 data points per device</p>
<p>In 1993, the Kingfisher Optical Calibration Laboratory, became the first commercial optical calibration laboratory in Asia to achieve accredited traceability status.&nbsp;</p>

                    <![CDATA[<p>Our KI27400 Series of Two-Way Loss, Length &amp; ORL Testers are known to set a new benchmark in field test productivity, accuracy and ease of use. Testing fiber length, bi-directional loss at two or more wavelengths, and ORL at each end, now requires only one test hook-up and is completed in a few seconds, using the same test procedure for both single-mode and multimode fiber.</p>
<p>Since initial introduction, ORL test performance has been significantly enhanced, with a much lower level of residual ORL.</p>

Used instead of a fixed optical attenuator, it dynamically adjusts it's attenuation to keep the output power at a steady level, so it can compensate for varying laser power level and cable attenuation. Mounted on a standard DIN rail, and requiring only a 12 - 48V DC power supply, it is reliable and easy to use. It is set up locally, and doesn't need a telemetry link.                 <title>New Two-Way Loss &amp; Length Tester</title>

                    <![CDATA[<p>The New KI27400 Series of Two-Way Loss &amp; Length Testers set new industry benchmarks in productivity, accuracy and ease of use. A length and bi-directional loss test at two or more wavelengths requires only one test hook-up and is completed in a few seconds, so the same test can be applied to all fibers in a network. This eliminates a layer of administration, co-ordination, training and reporting when certifying a LAN to many standards, in addition to minimising test errors and providing high accuracy. </p>
<p>The instruments are used as a pair, without defining any master/slave relationship. They are small and light, with an 80 hour battery life and sunlight readable display. Associated KITS software works securely with Excel, and can be used in real time to transfer readings to a report. Alternatively, the 8,000 fiber memory can be used to record pass/fail tests, for later reporting.</p>
<p>Versions include Quad, singlemode only, multimode only and also a convenient Visitester option, which illuminates the fiber under test.</p>

<p>400, 430, 470, 490, 520, 550, 580, 600, 635, 650, 660, 670, 700, 740, 780, 820, 850, 880, 910, 940, 980 nm. </p>

This arrangement is an essential tool for connector manufacturers, but is also a very preferable solution for most other users. The small size of this duplex connector presents problems for most other solutions relying on universal connectors. Collimator assemblies are commonly available for single mode or multimode fiber, but we couldn't find one for POF fiber, so we developed this one. It would be useful for anyone who needs to insert something into the light path of a plastic optical fiber.</p>
<p>This sort of solution can be useful in life sciences, for example, because it's much easier to couple a specialist light source into a POF compared to other fiber types. </p>
